Difference between men & women in using Sports supplements ?

IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN IN USING SPORTS SUPPLEMENTS?

The short answer would be "YES" but if you want to know why and how, here are some reasons below.

First of all, we don't mean weakness by saying difference. We mean that we should deal differently with each gender. To better understand these differences , we should learn the differences in men & women's physiology.

The average upper body strength in women  is about 40 % weaker compared to men.

The average of lower body  strength in women is about 30 % weaker compare than to men.

Women are able to build their bodies the same as men. They just need a special nutrition & sport plan.  This muscular weakness has an  interesting result for women. Women's bodies can recover faster after a hard training session because of having less Muscles. Women also have less hemoglobin ( about 10 % less ) so they have less O2 in their blood . but it won't be an issue because they don't need more!

Both men and women can Increase their cardiovascular fitness. Women have a higher fat mass percentage than men, even the skinny ones! About 20 - 25 % of a woman's body is fat compared to 15 - 20 % in men so endurance sports are very suitable for women.

One of the things which might prevent a woman from being successful in sports is that not only does she want to continue her training but also keep her low calorie diet.

So why would women need supplements?

  1. Eating disorders

  2. Amenorrhoea

  3. Osteoporosis ( because of Amenorrhoea  - Prevalence is about 10 - 13 %)

  •  These problems are mostly observed in women who want to have a low calorie diet & continue their intensive training .

  • Supplements can help a woman exercise more comfortably and not be worried about these problems. They also help a woman gain more muscle than normal.

As you can see there are some differences. Now how to deal with these differences?

Lately, some studies suggest that the amount of some supplements which women should take is different from what men should take. For example, women need less carbohydrates during an endurance sport. another example is women's need for BCAA, which is half of that of a man's during a day because of the low amount of amino acid oxidation in women's body.

In the end, knowing the differences between men &  women and the different amount of supplements which each should take can help athletes improve faster.
